
Texas soprano, Laura Smolik, heralded as "a beautiful stage creature", made her professional debut in 2008 with Houston Grand Opera as Dritte Knabe in Die Zauberflöte.
A frequent performer of both opera and musical theatre, some of Laura's favorite roles include Louise in the West Coast Premiere of Hans Werner Henze's The English Cat, Rona Lisa Peretti in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring, Rapunzel in Into the Woods, Cinderella in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, and Aurora in the U.S. Professional Premiere of Sleeping Beauty: The Musical.
While attending SMU, Laura was invited to train as an inaugural member of the Houston Grand Opera Young Artists Vocal Academy. She is also a graduate of the HGO High School Voice Studio, and has appeared as featured soloist for the groundbreaking ceremony of the George W. Bush Presidential Center and Library at SMU (begin at 6:24), and the grand opening celebration of the Strauss Square at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in the heart of downtown Dallas.
Holding a Bachelor of Music from Southern Methodist University and a Master of Music from University of Southern California, Laura can be seen next as Celia in Iolanthe with The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Houston.
